Tempest’s Track of the Day: LACUNA COIL - LOSING MY RELIGION
I’m a stickler about cover songs. 99.5% of the time, they’re either piss poor or they don’t do anything inventive that enhances the song. Lacuna Coil’s cover of R.E.M.’s hit song “Losing My Religion” is one of the rare exceptions that warrant a spotlight.
Lacuna Coil is an Italian rock band with dual vocalists; one of which being the extremely talented Christina Scabbia. Lacuna Coil struck gold in 2006 with their amazing cover of Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy the Silence” in their album, Karmacode. They’ve since become one of the biggest mainstream metal bands in the scene, and look to keep their momentum going with another original take on a classic track. Lacuna Coil’s cover of “Losing My Religion” retains the head-banging signatures of the band, while adding a surprisingly emotional effect that still does justice to Michael Stipe’s chilling lyrics.
